While NewsBriefs are great for educating readers and drawing attention to your services, they MUST announce something, preferably in the opening paragraph.

Below is a general guideline to follow when submitting NewsBriefs. This is a flexible guideline and can be modified to fit specific circumstances:

Paragraph 1: Who is announcing what? Where and when, if applicable.

Paragraph 2: Some details about the "what" being announced (event, product, person, etc).

Paragraph 3: Sentence or two about the "who" doing the announcing.

Paragraph 4: "For more information contact …. " sentence

Example Brief:

Spoken Word of Mobile™ and the Mobile Public Library will host ITVS (Independent Television Services) Community Cinema every first Saturday of each month from 2-4pm, beginning on September 2 and running through May 5, 2007. The cinema will be held at the Moorer/Spring Hill Branch Library with free admission, and refreshment will be served after the film. Discussion will follow.

The first film of this series will be The World According To Sesame Street. This PBS movie deals with social change from the most unlikely sources, including a team of Muppets. Follow the team from Sesame Street to Bangladesh, Kosovo, and South Africa. Education is always more than alphabets and numbers, and the contradictions inherent in teaching humane values in a world where AIDS, ethnic genocide, and poverty dominate the landscape make this film a must-see for anyone interested in intercultural dialogue.

Spoken Word of Mobile is a non-profit organization started in May, 2002, which focuses on giving back to the community and helping it grow through exposure to experiences outside of Mobile, Alabama. They serve the community with monthly poetry readings at the Toulminville Branch Library, and most recently, began this Community Cinema series affiliated with PBS.
